Need To Ride More

2010 Mileage: 1498

The combination of being busy in the shop, the rain and recovering from watching the state game at the bar on Friday night has been keeping me from doing the mileage I should be doing. At least those are my current excuses although I really should just say that I am being lazy and I need to get on the bike to do more than commute and ride to the bar.

Update

2010 Mileage: 1418

Well it has been a bit too long since I posted anything so I will give a quick rundown of the last couple weeks. I got four days away from the shop to spend with my grandparents down in Naples, Florida. It was four days of good food, golf and relaxation and it was great to see my grandparents. When I got back to the city spring had officially hit with weather in the 70's so we had a few crazy days in the shop. That combined with a weekend of Dave (one of my groomsmen) and his girlfriend visiting left me very ready for a day off today. Now I am about to head out on the mountain bike and try and find some trails to ride. That could be interesting leaving from downtown Manhattan.

Cleaning House...Literally

2010 Mileage: 1290

Tonight Lindsay and I had an apartment cleaning date. It has become a bit of a bi-weekly ritual for the two of us to have dinner and a bottle of wine and finishing the bottle as we divide and conquer the mess of cat hair, dishes and cycling items scattered about that seem to build up. Having a small space (750 square feet) can sometimes be tough to keep clean but I think we have found the secret to doing so(sort of). Oh yeah, that secret is wine and teamwork, but mostly wine.

Spring Is Here

2010 Mileage: 1280

With four days in a row with temperatures in the 50's I think the weather is finally changing. Today it actually hit 60 degrees out (although Per doesn't believe that). It has been a very comfortable couple days of riding with 4 laps in the park each of the last two days with Per (and Luca yesterday). Our average speed has jumped way up as well even with fighting the new crowds in Central Park. I forgot how busy the Park can get when the weather is nice out. The change in the weather has also led to some very busy days at the shop. It is a little more tiring but makes the day seem to fly by.

Hoboken St Pattys

2010 Mileage: 1207

We'll I think spring is finally here with weather in the 50's all weekend. It was gorgeous and so nice not to need to layer up too much to get out on the bike. Friday night Per and I headed over to meet Luca and pay Jeff a visit over at Jeff's Bar (well he manages the bar), Zum Schneider over in the East Village. Saturday was an incredibly early wake up to head over to meet at our friends apartment to head over to Hoboken for Hoboken St Patty's Day. I had always heard it was a big event but I was still skeptical. It reminded me of a Michigan State tailgate and was a great time (minus the headache I had today). Today I was back in the shop for our first truly busy day of the year and I realized I need to hire more people because two sales people on a day like today just won't cut it. Well it is now time to get some much needed sleep and hopefully get back in the saddle for a real ride tomorrow. I spent too much time in bars and not enough time on the bike this weekend.

Recovered

2010 Mileage: 1180

Well it took a few solid nights of sleep to recover from 24 hours in Michigan but I am finally feeling like I'm not sleep deprived anymore. Tonight I went out for 3 laps in the park with Per and 25 miles on the day. We are supposed to have a nice weekend and I think Spring may actually be here so I am hoping to get out for a nice long ride on Saturday morning.

On Monday Kate and I registered for the Iceman Cometh mountain bike race. Although the race isn't until November it is the only race I have signed up for this year so it at least gives me something to train for. That and the new mountain bike that I got last week have got me itching to get back on some mountain bike trails. Too bad that isn't an easy task living here in New York City. I guess that getting in shape on the road bike will have to do for now.
