Allamuchy

2010 Mileage: 2825

Yesterday afternoon I met up with Ian and Nick (both also bike shop employees) and we piled in to Nick's Mini Cooper for the drive out to the Allamuchy trail. We got there and I took one look up the first climb and could tell I was way undergunned riding a hardtail with an 80mm travel front fork. Nick was on a 6inch travel bike and that made a lot more sense for this place. Rock gardens now have a whole new meaning. I spent the next two hours getting tossed around and muscling my way through some incredibly technical singletrack. I only supermanned (or did a Pete Rose as Ian called it) over the bars once and as the ride went on I could feel myself getting more comfortable on the bike and with the terrain. It was a blast and made me miss my regular rides at Pontiac Lake that much more. I also forgot a little bit how completely different of a workout mountain biking can be.

After the ride I got home and Lindsay had dinner on the table. I have an amazing wife. Then I took a much needed shower and Linz and I went to Rockwood to meet some friends and watch our friend and my co-worker Mike Frensley play. Mike put on a great show and the beer I was drinking helped to kill the pain that had set in pretty bad on the drive back to the city after the ride. Mike is an awesome singer/songwriter and you can check him out/pick up a CD here.
